The Yosemite Week~ August 18-23, 2003
Monday- Wake up at 5 a.m. and head off to church, arrive at 5:30 a.m.
We leave church at 8:30 a.m. (some people showed up late). We head onto the road and drive a long time. We arrive
up in the general area of Yosemite at about 5ish, and then a tire blows out on one of the cars. We get to a station,
they fix it, and we're on our way. We arrive at out site at about 6:30 at night. We start setting up and eat dinner
around 7:45ish. We clean up and put our stuff int he bear box, my soap exploded over everything, so all my stuff goes
in.
Tuesday~
Wake up at 7ish and have hot chocolate with oatmeal. Get ready and
go on a hike to Soda Springs. About 2 hours or so all together. We come back on a "short cut" and I fall
into the river...fun fun! Come back change clothes, eat lunch and go to the Cascades. Went swimming, icy cold!
But refreshing. My group has dinner duty, we make chicken burgers, and side dishes for eveyone. Went on a night
hike. Climed another rock, got half way up and had a Bible Study there.
Wednesday~
A bear visited our camp the night before, we got complaints on our noisyness.
We wake up at 7ish again. Eat oatmeal and hot chocolate again, my shoes from the the day before still soaked.
Lead a devotional, and told my story of my aunt and how she's so strong. Get dressed, and go hiking Lambert Dome.
2 hour hike! Awesome view! Cars were lil dots moving when you got to the top, when the films developed don't worry,
you'll see what I mean! Got back to camp, felt horrible. The rest of the group goes to the Cascades, while me,
and a few other guys stay behind. I take a nap. I wake up and help start a fire. Sit by it for an hour and the
group comes back. I had lunch duty, only sandwhiches. Dinner was good. It was hamburgers. We went
to bed after a devotional.
Thursday~
Everyone can't believe how fast it's goin! Wake up at 8:30ish and
I had breakfast duty, but all I had to do was clean up :-D I woke up too late to set up! Went to Yosemite valley.
It rained there. Bee's were every where, and me freaking out not eating cause of the bee's! Go to Bridalveil falls,
and watch 3 people in our group get baptised. Go back home. Eat dinner. Talk, go to out tents, and then
get shushed because a person was gettin saved! Halelujah! It's awesome, they did get saved. Go to sleep.
Friday~
Wake up at 8ish freezing cold. It rained and thundered the night before,
and there was another bear in the camp. One person left out their backpack, which turned out to be shreds, another left
out a pack of sunflower seeds....bear slobber was left! Go take a long hike to the Cascades and beyond. While
crossin the river of course I step on a rock. For a moment go unconsiouse and wake to find people pulling me up and
pushing me on shore. All my clothes now soaked I now have to sleep in board shorts and a t-shirt. My shoes- ruined!
Both shoes now gone! On the hike back a carry a 6 year old kid on my back, that was fun! Then we went back and
I stayed behind as the group went fishing and stuff, and played cards with three other people and tried to warm up.
People finally get back and then we have dinner. We find out we have to wake up at 6 the next morning to pack up.
We went to bed.
Saturday~
Wake up at 6. Both pairs of shoes have ice in them, it's 30 degrees
in the sun! and I have thin thin thin pants that I found and a short sleeved t-shirt. OOOH IT WAS COLD!
We pack up everything, and eventually touching stuff started to burn your hands. Get everything all packed up and I
get to sit and co-pilot with Trish, one of the leaders. Nice 10 hour drive with her, I stayed up the whole time to keep
her up. Came home, got a new cd, and tried out our cable. Watch some TV and get a phone call my bro's been in
a car accident.
Not fun, he's ok, just a lil shook up. That's everything dude!
